ESSENTIAL

How to maintain your wingfoil equipment?

If you want your TAHE wingfoil equipment to have the longest life possible, here are some great care and maintenance tips to follow.

FOIL

RINSING

Your foil is an essential piece of equipment and you should take great care of it. The mountings, screws, and nuts are fragile, so it’s important to use a Teflon gel to protect them before using your foil to help prevent corrosion. A Teflon gel starter kit is supplied with every TAHE Aquilon foil. Rinse your foil with fresh water after each use and dismantle the foil—salt is public enemy number one for foils!

STORING

Make sure your carbon fiber foil wings are always well protected; they are fragile and can easily be damaged!

WING

INFLATION

From day one, avoid over-inflating your wing. Carefully follow the PSI inflation instructions and always use a manual pump with a good pressure gauge. Never use an electric pump.

RINSING

Give your wing a thorough rinse in fresh water after every session, especially after using it in the ocean. Grains of sand can infiltrate through the valve, which can cause damage to the inner bladder. Nothing deteriorates synthetic materials more than sand, salt and sun. We recommend that you rinse your wing regularly and dry it thoroughly before storing it. It’s better to take your wing home dirty and rinse it there than fold it up when it’s still damp, which can cause it to get moldy—just be sure you remember to rinse it as soon as you get home.

DRYING

We recommend that you always dry your wing flat after rinsing rather than hanging it by the leading or trailing edge with clothes pins. Hanging the wing vertically can lead to problems if the internal bladder doesn’t go back properly into all its corners—this can lead to twists in the bladder that can result in it exploding next time you inflate your wing.

STORAGE

As you unfold your TAHE Alize wing for the first time, try and remember how it was factory-folded for re-packing later. After every session and when it’s properly dry, fold and roll it carefully and try to avoid excessive “creasing.” It’s ideal to store it flat with nothing else on top of it.

REPAIRS

Every TAHE wing comes with a free repair kit. There are bladder repair materials and strips of stick-on nylon sail repair fabric. To prevent your wing from getting damaged on the beach when not in use, always make sure your Alize is lying flat on its back, leading edge facing the wind and handles upwards, either pegged down or weighted down with sand or your board!

BOARD

To ensure your Aria rigid board stays in tip top shape, rinse it occasionally and store and transport it in a padded board bag to protect it.

For the Aria Air, make sure you dry it out thoroughly before you pack it into its storage bag, especially if you won’t be using it for a while, and store it flat.

ACCESSORIES

After each use, rinse your helmet, impact vest, and wetsuit in fresh water. Dry them out thoroughly afterwards to make sure they don’t mold. It’s ideal to dry your wetsuit inside out.

While you’re washing everything, you can check over your board and wing leashes for signs of wear and tear. They will also benefit from regular rinsing, especially the stitching.
