#TIPS | Bottom turn

What exactly is a bottom turn? The bottom turn is a curve or turn executed at the bottom of the wave enabling you to climb back up the hollow part of the wave. It happens in 3 stages.

First stage, descending the wave. As you are descending your wave, keep your body weight pressing forwards towards the nose of the board.

Second stage, the turn. Shift your bodyweight towards the board’s rail to help you turn it, keeping your eyes fixed on your target point.

Third and final stage, lightening up. As you climb back up the face of the wave, lighten your foot pressure and move your body to a more upright position.

In the bottom turn, you need to keep your eyes fixed on your objective point and where you want to go next. Thanks to this board’s shape and rail, you will always have good hold and grip through your turns.

#TIPS | Roller

The front side roller is a fast, radical turn made on the lip of the wave. The idea is to use the lip to get back onto the face of the wave with maximum forward speed.

First stage: your vertical trajectory. As you come out of your bottom turn, put strong foot pressure on the rear of your board to steer it up towards the lip.

Second stage: shoulder rotation. Keep your board as flat as possible, with your eyes and shoulders fixed on and facing towards the lip.

Third and final stage: as soon as the front of your board has passed the lip, start your shoulder rotation to steer your board back onto the descent of the face of the wave.

Try to open your shoulders as much as possible. Aim for the lip, turning your shoulders as much as possible to help you see it and to steer you in that direction. To get easily into your turn, turn your head to look down the face of the wave and try to curve your arm up and over the top of your head.

Once your body is leaning towards the wave, launch your leading shoulder towards the bottom of the wave, keeping your foot pressure towards the rear of your board to help you finish your turn.

The COMET is very maneuverable and also very forgiving when you make mistakes.

#TUTO | Surfing Spirit

Before start surfing, it’s important to understand the rules.

First, the priority rules. One surfer for each wave. The surfer closest to the peak when the wave starts breaking always takes priority. Never try to get on a wave if there is already another surfer on it. On a double-breaking wave, right and left, two surfers can go at the same time as long as they choose opposite directions.

Second up: the safety rules. Always use a board leash. Choose a spot that corresponds with your skill level. Make your way steadily towards the peak without getting in the way of surfers already on the wave.

Final tip, for when you’ve finished your sessions. Pick up any rubbish you can find on your way off the beach and stay chilled!
