Choosing your windsurf board

Choosing the right windsurf board depends on three important criteria: your skill level, your weight and the conditions you will be winsurfing in.

Beginner level

If you’re just starting to windsurf, we advise you to choose a wide, big volume board with a daggerboard, which will help you to make your first runs and then progress to the next level. The wider and bigger volume the board, the more stable it will be.

Beach range boards are the best adapted for beginners. They are wide, voluminous and incredibly strong, made using our TOUGH TEC (Polystyrene/Polyethylene) construction system, and have a daggerboard to help you get back upwind even when the wind is blowing offshore.

Choosing which of the 3 models available, 160cm, 185 and 225, depends on your weight.
Beach 160: for beginners < (less than/up to) 70 kg.
Beach 185: for beginners < (less than/up to) 80 kg.
Beach 225: for beginners < (less than/up to )100 kg.

Beginner to intermediate level

Some of the Breeze board range also have a daggerboard, making them perfect for learning and progressing too. Once again, your body weight will be the deciding factor in your choice:

Techno 160 D: for beginners < (less than/up to) 70 kg
Techno 185 D: for beginners < (less than/up to) 80 kg
SUP Wind 11’6: for beginners < (less than/up to) 80 kg

The two Techno boards, 160D and 185D, are very good boards for learning to windsurfing, for moving on to planing, learning to ride in the footstraps, and for making your fist jibes (180 degree turn). They’re light weight, high performance and responsive, giving all the great sensations of funboard sailing. In light winds the bigger volume 185D and SUP Wind enable you to sail without planing and enjoy exploring the beach/coastline.

Intermediate level

Once you’ve mastered planing, riding in the footstraps and using the harness, you can think of moving on to the Techno 130, 133, 148 and 160 boards, which do not have a daggerboard. If you haven’t yet learned to waterstart and lifting the sail with the uphaul, your body weight will dictate your choice.

Techno 160 WF: for intermediate level riders < (up to/less than) 100 kg
Techno 148: for intermediate level riders < (up to/less than) 90 kg
Techno 133: for intermediate level riders < (up to/less than) 80 kg
Techno 130 WF: for intermediate level riders < (up to/less than) 80 kg

Intermediate to advanced level

When you’ve learned to sail in the footstraps, to waterstart, jibe, and use the harness, you can choose from any/all of the funboards in the range, with your choice dictated by the prevailing winds at your regular sailing spot, and the sail size you’re planning to use.

Techno 160 WF: Ideal sail size: 6.8 - 8.5 m2
Techno 148: Ideal sail size: 6.8 - 8.5 m2
Techno 133: Ideal sail size: 5.8 - 8 m2
Techno 130 WF: Ideal sail size: 5.8 - 8 m2

You’ll also be able to consider getting into foil sailing. There are two foil-adapted boards: the Techno Foil 160 and the Techno Foil 130 WF.

The 160 WF is designed for foil board beginners, and riders who want plenty of comfortable volume to help with uphauling the sail.

The 130 WF is for windsurfers who want a board for both foil sailing AND advanced freeride.
