 WINGFOIL:

ADJUST YOUR
WINGFOIL RIG

HOW TO ADJUST YOUR WINGFOIL RIG?

Unlike kitesurfing and windsurfing, wingfoiling has the advantage of having much less tuning and trimming to do in order to optimize performance. Once your wing is inflated it requires no further adjustments. The only adjustments you can or need to make are to the foil, and to footstraps if you decide to fit them to your board.

FOIL

Foil adjustment is very important as it has an enormous influence on the handling of your board.

It’s very important that you understand how to adjust your foil in the foil box/housing on the underside of your board.

For example, on the Aria board the box is long enough for you to try different positions for your Aquilon foil: towards the front, in the middle, or towards the rear.

But where should you position the foil when you’re a beginner? Our Aquilon foils are designed to be easy to learn to ride without much adjustment, but here are a few pointers that can help you fine tune it to your size and weight.

  •  Foil in the middle: This is your starting point for learning, whether you’re using an Aquilon 1500 or a 2000. This will show you whether the foil is generating sufficient “lift” during take-off, without having to force it. If you’re struggling for enough lift, try moving the foil towards the front.
  •  Foil towards the front: This position, in most cases, should enable your foil to generate much more lift as soon as you start picking up speed on your board. The extra lift should help you achieve take-off more easily and you should feel more pressure on your front foot, which will help you keep the board much flatter/more horizontal, helping your foil to glide more smoothly.
  • Foil towards the rear: Generally speaking, the third position option in the box gives you more control and faster forward speed, but you lose a little bit of maneuverability.

As you gain experience, you should try out all the possible adjustments to see what suits you best, starting with the foil in the middle position.

KEEP IN MIND

  • Compared to a lighter rider, a bigger, heavier rider will tend to move the foil forward in the foil box to help with the take-off phase.
  • If you’re feeling too much pressure on your front leg while riding, your foil is too far forward and you need to move it back a little bit.
  • If you’re feeling too much pressure on your rear leg, make the opposite adjustment. The essential thing is to find a good balance between front and rear foot pressure, with enough pressure on your front foot/leg to help you in the take-off phase and with pumping.

ADJUSTING YOUR FOOTSTRAPS

If you want to fit footstraps to your Aria board, there are multiple insert positions on the deck you can choose from.

The adjustments are mainly made in relation to your size and weight by adjusting your stance, wider or narrower.

To find a good stance, put your board down on a board bag or soft ground and try different foot positions that correspond to the inserts—see which position feels most comfortable and fit your straps to the appropriate inserts.

For the strap tightness, you should be able to put your whole foot in it all the way to your ankle.
