Each racing becomes a celebration, where young sailors not only compete together but also immerse themselves in new cultures and build lasting friendships. It’s a truly human experience, driven by a shared passion for windsurfing.
ONE DESIGN FOR FAIR RACING
Launched in 2005, the Techno 293 OD has a shape that allows it to perform well in a wide range of sailing conditions. As a result, competitions can take place in wind speeds from 5 to over 25 knots, with the board excelling throughout this range. It remains easy to handle, even for the lightest riders.
For sailors over 17, the T293 Plus class allows you to continue racing with a boosted T293 equipped with a 50cm fin and an 8.5m2 sail.
20 YEARS OF SHARING
CLASS OVER TIME
2005
THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY
The T293 Class was established in 2005 to provide young sailors under 17 to compete in windsurfing against international riders. Within just one year, the T293 Class saw a growing number of participants and countries, paving the way for a promising future!
The design of the T293 board will evolve in the first year, giving way to the current mythical orange and white.
2006
GAINING INTERNATIONAL STATUS
Thanks to the number of countries and continents represented at the 2006 Techno 293 World Championships in Marsala, Sicily, the class achieved "international" status.
This marked the first success for the Techno 293 Class, with registrations surpassing those of the previous Aloha World Championships (135 participants compared to 80).
2011
OFF TO THE USA!
For the first time, the T293 Class ventured outside of Europe to conquer the American market, with San Francisco as its destination!
While windsurfing is not widely practiced on the mainland, aside from in Hawaii, it was welcomed by the second-largest Yacht Club in the U.S., which saw windsurfing and the T293 as the future of sailing.
The event attracted 150 participants, although European participation was limited due to the challenges of transporting equipment in containers.
2014-2015
A GLOBAL REACH
By this time, the class had grown to nearly 500 competitors from over 40 countries across 4 continents. In total, more than 10,000 young sailors under 17 were competing on the Techno 293 in around 60 countries.
From Japanese universities to biggest clubs in Argentina, the T293 was racing on waters all around the globe.
2016
OPENING UP TO COMPETITORS OVER 17
In 2016, the "Open" class, allowing competitors over 17 to continue racing on the 293, was growing rapidly. In response to increasing demand, the Techno Plus class was created.
A new, more powerful version of the Techno 293 was introduced, featuring a more powerful sail and fin, designed to suit larger sailors.
2023
BACK TO THE ROOTS
For the first time in 10 years, the World Championships take place in France, at Quiberon on Brittany’s south coast, just a few kilometers away from the historic and T293 boards manufacturing site, still active today.
A week of intense competition for the 350 sailors of this edition.
