In 2024, O’pen Skiff and Techno 293 both had truly exceptional years.
With four major international championships all enjoying perfect weather conditions, nearly 1400 racers on the start lines, hundreds of races run and validated, TAHE's two international classes are both in extremely rude health! Today more than ever they are a nursery ground for future talent. Here's our Flashback on an amazing season.
O'pen skiff
Successful launch for the new-format Euro Challenge
The international season got underway strongly in April at Arco in Italy for the first round of the new-look Euro Challenge. 170 racers responded to the call to competition. An enormous number for this new format. It was a great opportunity for many of the racers to get some experience at Arco, ready for the World Championships a few months later. The other Euro Challenge rounds later in the Spring in Sopot/Poland and Balaton Máriafürdő/Hungary that followed were also extremely successful.
Record entry for the World Championships
The « Queen » event of the season was unquestionably the World Championships in Arco, which set yet another new record entry with nearly 300 racers from 14 countries spread among the U12, U15 and U17 categories. This big meet up was also used to define the age categories that will apply in future seasons, tweaking the age groups to a new U13 and U17 structure. The fantastic weather conditions on Lake Garda lived up to billing, with wind and sun all week and great fun for all the participants! The Euro Challenge concluded at Campione, Italy with 232 racers battling out over 4 rounds of racing under “international” conditions.
Techno293 OD and Techno +
Perfect World Championships on a legendary lake
The Techno 293 and Techno + season burst into life at the end of July with a great World Championships event at Balatonföldvár. A warm welcome from the excellent local club, great and varied weather conditions, superbly organised, Balaton really provided the best possible setting for the 340 riders from 18 different countries. 15 rounds (the maximum allowed) were validated in all the age categories. Full house! The podiums for every one of the categories were a cocktail of all the countries represented here, and the opening and closing ceremonies were outstanding. A faultless week right in the heart of Europe!
A quick run through the European Championships
The European Championships that followed a couple of months later was a similar story, with 270 riders on the start lines and strong winds all week long. The club and race committee were impeccable in organisation and judgement assuring a great week for all concerned. A week that will live long in the memories of all the participants, who showed incredible skill taking on and completing races in very strong, challenging conditions. Special mention for the youngest category (Under 13s) who showed great skill and temperament in extreme circumstances!
